What is PivotRadar?
PivotRadar is a curated, searchable database tracking startups that have undergone significant pivots — changes in their product, market, or business model. It helps founders, investors, and researchers understand how and why companies shift direction. We believe startup pivots are under-researched, under-reported -and critically important.
Where does the data come from?
The list of startups is sourced from early stage funds such as Techstars, general web research, news sites such as Sifted or TechCrunch as well as startup discovery platforms such as Producthunt or Microlaunch. Plus our own manual research and AI-enriched website analysis and ongoing monitoring of startup websites and messaging changes. We combine publicly available information with automated site analysis and AI-powered interpretation.
How often do you update?
You can expect updates every four weeks, depending on the volume. You can also review our “Queue” page to get a sense of what’s coming next. Please note that out of all startups screened, naturally only a certain percentage will enter the database – based on the feasibility of pivot analysis or website information (e.g. 404 error).
How is a “pivot” determined?
Academically as “structured course corrections designed to test a new fundamental hypothesis about the product, business model, and engine of growth” (Ries, 2011). At PivotRadar, we use AI to compare the original tagline or description with the startup’s current website content. If there is an observable change in market focus, product type, tech or value proposition, it’s marked as a pivot.
